Goodbye romance? Much to my sorrow, many things disturb me in our “Brave New World” but, the truth is, in every generation things happen which disturb people. There is, though, one thing which really bothers me and, for some strange reason, I feel I can best say it in the vernacular of my Hillbilly upbringing: There ain’t no romance no more. There was a time when we taught boys to be courteous, thoughtful, and “gentlemanly” when dealing with girls. And we taught girls that it didn’t really harm anything if they gave in a little to a boy’s ego. Oh, yes, we also taught girls how to fend off a boys advances without screaming, “Rape.” Boys used to “woo” girls and it was not only a learning experience, it was a bit of fun.
Romance Really Is Gone Today
Romance really is gone today, and music is a good example of that. Have you ever noticed that if a movie should have a romantic scene (not a sex scene), where the background music came from? If you haven’t noticed, I’ll tell you. The music comes from the 1930s into the late ‘50s. Don’t believe me? Well, just watch and listen. Many people saw the movie “Ghosts.” The music? “Unchained Melody,” written in 1955. There are many other examples. Can you really imagine a scene which is supposed to be romantic and the background music is on the order of, “That b—- is a ‘ho?” I can’t.
Every Woman Is a “Wonder Woman”
Of course, as with many things, the effects go far beyond what I have mentioned. It seems that we’re teaching girls that every woman is a “Wonder Woman.” Think about that. Men are typically taller and have more upper-body strength than the typical woman. Now, for an, admittedly silly, example, let’s randomly pick 1000 men and 1000 women, all within the ages of 20 and 40 and in good health. Then randomly pair a man and a woman. Make each pair fight and, if any man has a problem with hitting a woman, tell him he will be shot. Now a question. What person in their right mind would bet cold, hard cash that more women would win the fights than men?
Now, don’t be stupid and think that I believe that men are the superior sex. I just believe that, in many ways, men and women are different, and no law can change that. And, by the way, I sort of like the difference.
