7 Things I Learned In My 40s and 50s

I am 81 years old. I have decided to list some things I have learned in my years on Earth.

This “learning” business is being done in installments. This installment is what I learned when I was in my forties and fifties.

Things I Learned In My 40s and 50s

Here We Go

1. Sense of humor: Always try to keep your sense of humor. The older you get, the more a sense of humor helps to keep you sane.

2. Laugh at yourself: This sort of goes along with “Sense of humor.” If you do or say something foolish, don’t be afraid to laugh at yourself. It usually makes you feel better about what you did. It also tends to make others feel better about you.

3. Where you are in life: You may not be at the peak of your career but you are on the path you have established.

4. Downhill slope: You are on the other side of the hill. Don’t be afraid. Live life as well as you are able.

5. Don’t push viciously: All of us want to get ahead in life and be looked up to by our peers. But you don’t really elevate your position by falsely degrading others, even your competitors.

6. Everybody doesn’t love you: As you meander through life, you will develop, if not enemies, people who flat-out dislike you. There are many reasons for that. It could be you or it could be the one who dislikes you. That’s life, so learn to live with it.

7. Fear of failure: Everybody makes mistakes. Don’t limit yourself by being afraid to make a mistake. Admit your mistake and learn from it. As a matter of fact, most great inventions have come about after a trial and error process.

I don’t have much more to say on the subject.  Do you?
