About H.D. Ingles

Things I Learned In My 40s and 50s

Some say I’m a hillbilly. I accept that illustrious moniker with pride. I am from Huntington, West Virginia; up in them thar hills, as they say.

I write quite a bit about my childhood. I have wonderful, warm memories of my formative years.

I was born in 1939 to exceptional parents and had six remarkable older sisters.

By the way, you can read more about my sisters in “Sisters, Sisters Everywhere” and “My Six Sisters“.

Harrison, Irene, Virginia, Margaret, Mary Marjorie, Winona, and Grace Jean.

As you can imagine, being the youngest male child and with my sense of humor, I did rib them a little. (As in “A Bevy of Broads“) All in fun. I adored and respected my sisters when I was a child and even more so as an adult.

UNITED STATES AIR FORCE

I was in the U.S. Air Force from mid-1958 until mid-1962. It was one of the best decisions of my life. Full stop. I even wrote a book about my time in the Military in a collection of humorous short stories,  called Wrath of Grapes

HISTORY

I am 84 and am lucky to have lived through more than eight decades of the history of this extraordinary nation. I still love learning and I write quite a bit about the history of the United States, in books and in blog posts. My most recent book is about the epic water battles of the war between the states. Here’s the link to that, if you’re interested: The Confederate Navy | A Book About Ships and Harbors.

I love word play and post a lot of puns. If you like that sort of thing, connect with me on my Facebook page. We have such enjoyable conversations and you are welcome to join in.
