Personal Freedom, Part IV

Personal Freedom, Part IV

Personal Freedom, Part IV: I wish to discuss words and deeds which may offend others. On this one, I’ll get into trouble with a lot of Conservatives because I have a bit of Libertarian streak in me. I believe that prostitution should be legal. I see no difference between a man buying a woman he hardly knows an expensive evening out and then taking her to bed, and a man laying out cash to a woman for the same end result.

What the woman is selling is hers, so let her sell it. (Any sensible Conservative would say, “If you have a good product, then sell it.”) Prostitution has been with us for millennia and I don’t see any end to it, laws be damned. Were prostitution legal, it would cut way down on pimps who abuse the girls and it would cut way down on venereal diseases. And, of course, it would cut way down on the cost of victimless crimes. I don’t believe that I’m wrong here. If you disagree, try not to hold it against me.

Now that I’ve beaten freedom of action to death, I think that freedom of word is just as important, maybe even more so. If you haven’t guessed already, The Bill of Rights is something which I hold very dear to my heart.

Political Correctness

Political correctness, dear old PC, is destroying our freedom of speech. I despise things such as using the euphemism “N-word.” I am not saying that it is nice to call people names. I am saying that a word exists so, if you mean it, say it and don’t dance around. For example, if you call a man a bastard, you are saying that he is illegitimate. That’s a pretty bad insult (at least it used to be). But we can’t invent a “B-word” because that’s already been invented for women. So do we then invent “B-word (male)” and “B-word (female)?” I doubt it because that stupidity could go on forever. On second thought, I’m not sure I doubt it, after all, NYC is up to somewhere around 32 sexes.

You must understand that words are not bad in themselves but their usage, i.e., how you mean what you are saying, may either be bad or not. For example, in The Virginian (a must-read, I might add), when a man says to the Virginian, “You son of a b “ [sic], the Virginian replies, “Smile when you say that.”

Liberals say that we should never offend others. That’s a load of nonsense. Some people should be offended because they are offensive. I give you Muslim terrorists as an example. Of course, the “never offend others” bunch seem to have no problem offending certain groups. I give you Christians, especially white Southern males, as an example. These guys are called racists and Nazis just because Liberals disagree with them. It also seems that many Liberals have a problem with Jews. Is that real racism or not?

Conservative Speech

So let’s figure this out. True Liberals want to limit Conservative radio, TV, Internet, and speech in general. But, at the same time, what Liberals say should be heard by all. I don’t know what you call that kind of thinking but, if you call it “freedom of speech,” then you just may have a screw loose (or you are a liar). Oh, yes, that type of thinking has always been a fascist hallmark.

What all of this boils down to is that the current “PC generation” seem to be so afraid of not being “sensitive” (to the right people, of course) that they, many times, do not speak the truth. And that is rotten thinking because, above all, the truth needs to out. But, the really strange part about PC is that it’s okay to call a Conservative a name, especially if it’s a lie. Wow! What brilliant logic!

You see, in truth, Liberals are not really liberal; they are tyrannical.

I reckon that I’ve said enough on this subject; you either understand me or you don’t. (Or you won’t.)
