The Big Easter Egg Hunt

Easter-The Big Easter Egg Hunt by H.D. Ingles | HDIngles.com

Fifty or so years ago, at Easter, our daughters were almost three and almost nine.

It was “hide the eggs time”.

We did it in the house.  I had to hide some easy ones for Laura, and a bit harder to find for Lisa.  That makes sense.

I always hid exactly one dozen eggs.  The reason is quite simple, I had to know the exact number.  The last thing I needed was to have an egg going rotten in the house.

Carolyn and I had a few laughs watching the girls find the eggs.  You know, “You’re getting warm, you’re getting cold.”  That type of thing.

Laura found her easy ones.  Lisa understood that she wasn’t to find the easy ones.

The eggs were found.  I counted the eggs in the basket, 1, 2, 3, …, 11.

Oh my God!  One missing.  The hunt began to take on a more serious tone.

Carolyn, Lisa, and I began a serious search.  We looked all over and still no egg number 12.

I began to envision, shall we say, a rather smelly July.

Our dog, Cindy, was watching all of this.  Well, Cindy moseyed into the dining room and began sniffing under a curtain.

Out rolled the elusive Easter egg.
