H.D. Ingles is an Air Force veteran, retired IBM senior programmer, author, humorist, and lifelong observer of people.

He grew up in Huntington, West Virginia, in a family where hard work, education, and a good story were taken seriously. Those early years—and the people who shaped them—still find their way into much of what he writes today.

From the Air Force to IBM

H.D. served in the United States Air Force during the early years of America’s computer age, as a radar instructor, and working with the SAGE air-defense system.

After leaving the military, he built a long career as a programmer with IBM. But even while working with computers, he never stopped paying attention to people—their habits, their histories, their peculiarities, and the things they do that make the rest of us shake our heads.

Those observations eventually became stories.

Becoming an Author—Eventually

H.D. began writing many years before he began publishing.

Then, at an age when most people expect to slow down, he decided it was time to put those stories into the world. He published his first books near the age of eighty and has since written fourteen books, including novels, mysteries, humorous stories, history, and memories of American life.

In his work, H.D. often looks backward, but never stuck in the past. He preserves the people, places, humor, and everyday experiences that helped shape a generation.

More Than Books

Today, H.D.’s community extends well beyond the printed page.

Thousands of readers join him on Facebook for history, humor, memories, and conversation. His videos bring old photographs and overlooked pieces of American history back to life. And through the R U Nuts Network, his jokes and observations occasionally escape onto shirts, glasses, and anything else that looks like it could use a little foolishness.

Through it all, H.D. remains personally involved. He reads the comments, answers his readers, and appreciates every person who takes the time to pull up a chair.

Still Writing. Still Remembering. Still Laughing.

H.D. has watched the world change more than once.

He remembers where we’ve been, notices where we are, and has a few thoughts about where we might be headed.

Fortunately, he still thinks most of it is worth laughing about.
